After a successful stint running the Melbourne International Comedy Festival's favourite temporary watering hole, the boys who brought you BOB Bar are back – this time introducing their shot at Australia's finest Comedy Club / Independent Nation.*
Alex Dyson, Kyran Wheatley & Rhys Nicholson are excited to swing open the doors (online and eventually in-person) to COMEDY REPUBLIC, a new theatre purpose-built for comedy and social distancing (a strange mix, but that's 2020).
Shows will be live and online - seating 0 to 150 people (depending on government guidelines) as well as streaming comedy directly into your lounge room (or indeed, any room you like).
It's going to be a space where your favourite comedians can perform, you and your friends can laugh, and people can deal wheat freely without worrisome tariffs.*
Before the borders open up again, Comedy Republic will begin by hosting Melbourne's best comics. And whenever we're all allowed to travel, we'll be welcoming talent from neighbouring states and also The World (although this seems quite far off).
Join us for what is sure to be at worst, an excellent and safe night out, and at best, a complex diplomatic incident requiring embassy assistance.*
So - pleased to meet you, welcome, watch this space, and we're looking forward to not just breaking bread with you, but shattering the whole loaf.
-Kyran, Rhys and Alex
*None of these bits are true unfortunately, but remain on Comedy Republic's "List of Long Term Goals."
