Book Week Comedy Gala

Saturday 26 August, 4:00pm
Comedians have slowly but surely started taking over the shelves of the kid’s section of your local book shop. Angered by comics wandering into their lane, some full-time junior fiction writers have begun protesting by chaining themselves to microphones in comedy clubs.
To prove they’ve got what it takes, a group of comedians & funny people are putting on a Book Week Comedy Gala for young readers [8-12].
Hosted by Damian Callinan, the line-up includes Peter Helliar, Claire Hooper, Fiona Harris, David Lawrence, Penny Tangey & Andy Griffiths will also be appearing to demand that comedians stop taking his job.
There’ll be extracts read, ideas pitched and babies juggled – whatever it takes to ensure that the next time you buy a book, it will be written by a comedian, not a stupid ‘real’ kid’s book author.
Readings Kids will be onsite to sell everyone’s books before and after the show.
Let’s finish on a joke
Q: ‘Why did the comedian cross the road?
A: ‘I thought it would be obvious by now!? To sign a kids book deal.’
