FAQ


Can I purchase tickets on the night?
Tickets are sometimes available on the door; however, to guarantee your spots and avoid disappointment, we always strongly recommend pre-booking online.

Can I book a ticket over the phone?
Yes. Book by calling 03 9654 6836 between 12pm – 5pm Tuesday to Friday.

I’ve purchased a ticket for the wrong event, can I exchange my ticket to the correct event?
Pending availability, yes we can transfer your ticket to the correct event. If there is a difference in price from your original purchase to the updated ticket, you will be required to pay a fare difference.

I can no longer attend a show, can I get a refund?
Comedy Republic does not offer refunds or exchanges due to a change in personal circumstances or a lineup change. Comedy Republic will offer a refund or exchange if an event is cancelled, rescheduled or significantly relocated and you don’t want to attend the rescheduled or relocated event. If you do want a refund, you will need to request it within a reasonable time and provide proof of purchase. More info can be found in our T&Cs.

In accordance with Live Performance Australia guidelines, Comedy Republic will not offer refunds for patrons who are unable to attend a show because they have contracted COVID-19 or have been a close contact with someone who has COVID-19. However, if requested within a reasonable timeframe, we can offer flexibility with your ticket by exchanging to an alternative date (pending availability) or giving you the opportunity to resell your ticket (if applicable).

Can I get a discount for a group booking?
Unless advertised for a specific show, our shows do not have group discounts as we have ensured that the standard ticket prices are as affordable as possible for our audiences.

Is there reserved seating?
All tickets for Comedy Republic shows are General Admission with no reserved seating, it’s a first in best dressed policy! The Theatre will open approx. 15 minutes before each show is scheduled to start.

I’m coming with a group, can I guarantee we’ll all be seated together?
Yes, we can make sure that if you’re coming as a group, we can sit you all together. We recommend all entering the theatre together to make this process as smooth as possible. If some of your group are running late, just let the venue manager know so they can reserve the additional seats for your group.

What ID do I need to produce for a concession ticket?
Full-time students (including international students), children aged 16 years and under, pensioners, seniors (including Victorian Carer Card holders) and Health Care Card holders are all eligible for concession priced tickets.

Are there age restrictions for shows at Comedy Republic?
The age recommendations for all shows will be listed in the event description on the show links. We also recommend contacting our team on a show by show basis to check its suitability.

Can I purchase a gift voucher?
Absolutely! Our vouchers are a great gift idea for anyone who loves to laugh. You can purchase these here.

What is the Comedy Republic’s operating hours?
Monday: Closed
Tuesday – Saturday: 5pm till late
Sunday: Closed

Where can I find a drinks menu?
Our drinks menu is always evolving as we hand-pick produce from small-batch winemakers and brewers. You can find our most up to date offering here.

Do you serve food?
You can purchase an upgrade to your Comedy Republic experience with our Cheese Board offering. These can be added when you purchase a ticket to any of our Main Stage shows, or if you want to add this on after you’ve made a booking, you can book this in here. Please note, no bookings will be accepted within 48hrs of the show you’ll be attending.

Every Thursday for our Main Stage show, we serve hot cheesy toasties from 5pm ‘til late. Pick from straight cheese, prosciutto and a kimchi option. There’s a vegan one too!   

What’s your COVIDSafe Policy?
Our team is vigilantly following Government recommendations to ensure Comedy Republic is as safe as possible. Measures include air purifiers, hand sanitiser located around the venue and contactless payments.

Do you do open mic nights?
No. However, there are heaps of great venues around the city that do which can be found via this regularly updated list.

I lost something at Comedy Republic, what can I do?
Email hello@comedyrepublic.com.au with the details of the show you attended and a description of the lost item. Our venue team will follow up with you if we are able to locate it.

Is the venue Wheelchair Accessible?
Unfortunately, our venue is not wheelchair accessible. We are truly sorry we are currently unable to welcome wheelchair users to Comedy Republic. As a new theatre in an old building, we are working hard to transform our venue into an accessible space for every comedy lover.

We are located in the heart of the CBD, within walking distance to several train stations:
– Melbourne Central Station: 6 minute walk, allow extra time to exit the shopping centre
– Flinders Street Station: 8 minute walk
– Parliament Station: 9 minute walk, use Spring Street exit

By Tram

Age Requirements

Audience members under the age of 18 may attend a show at Comedy Republic if they are in the company of a responsible adult. A responsible adult is defined as a person who is 18 years or older and is the minor’s parent, step-parent, guardian, grandparent, or a person who is acting in place of a parent and who could reasonably be expected to exercise responsible supervision of the minor.

All shows contain mature adult themes (MA15+). We recommend contacting our team before purchasing tickets to discuss whether the specific show is suitable for young adults.



Bar

Perched above the hustle of Bourke and Swanston, our bar is the perfect hideaway in the heart of the CBD. Whether you’re seeing a show or not, you can enjoy drinks with friends from our alcoholic and non-alcoholic menus, all heroeing local winemakers, brewers and distilleries. View Menu.

Covid

The health of our audiences, performers and team is our top priority. We work hard to ensure your visit to Comedy Republic is as safe as possible and we value your assistance with this.

In accordance with Live Performance Australia guidelines, Comedy Republic will not offer refunds for patrons who are unable to attend a show because they have contracted COVID-19 or have been a close contact with someone who has COVID-19. However, if requested within a reasonable timeframe, we can offer flexibility with your ticket as per the below.

  • Exchange to an alternative date (pending availability)
  • The opportunity to re-sell your ticket to a waitlist (if applicable)

If you have any specific access requirements you would like to let us know about prior to your visit please contact us.

Companion Card Holders
We accept Companion Cards for all ticketed events. A Companion Card allows the cardholder to book a free ticket for the companion who will assist them during their visit. Simply select a ‘companion card’ ticket when booking online. You will need to present your Companion Card at the Box Office on arrival.

Stairs
We are located on the first and second floor of the building, which is currently accessible via stairs only. There are 47 steps in our venue: 22 from the entrance to the bar, and 25 from the bar to the theatre. If you require assistance, please let our friendly team members know. We will do our best to help where possible.

Wheelchair Access
Unfortunately our venue is not wheelchair accessible. We are truly sorry we are currently unable to welcome wheelchair users to Comedy Republic. As a new theatre in an old building, we are working hard to transform our venue into an accessible space for every comedy lover. Keep an eye out for updates.

Online Events
In addition to in person events, we often offer online live-streamed performances.

Auslan Interpretation
Auslan Interpretation translates what is being said or sung into Auslan (Australia’s Sign Language).

Relaxed Performances
Relaxed performances can be enjoyed by anyone, particularly those who would benefit from a more relaxed environment. This can include, but is not limited to, people with autism, sensory sensitivities, Tourette’s syndrome, learning disabilities or dementia, as well as people living with anxiety or people who have experienced trauma.

In a Relaxed Performance we make the following adaptations: 
– Minor changes to the sensory elements of a show, such as reducing lighting and loud noises.
– A relaxed attitude to noise and movement. Audiences are welcome to use stimming devices and can leave the theatre at any time. 
– The house lights will remain on, but dimmed, throughout the show. 
– A designated quiet area will be available.
– There will be a reduced capacity in the theatre.
– A Visual Story will be made available to help you prepare for your visit.
